The Department of Social Services in Sharjah participates in the 21st edition of Sharjah Heritage Days, which is organized by the Sharjah Heritage Institute, during the period from February 22 to March 3, under the slogan “Communicate,” in the Old Sharjah area. A national and heritage event. The Department’s participation comes with the aim of strengthening its relationship with the participating entities from various institutions in Sharjah specifically and the Emirates in general. Since the Heritage Days are directed to all members of the family, from the oldest to the youngest, the Department participates with several departments affiliated with it, namely the Department of Social Education, which has developed a program full of awareness workshops for children. Especially with regard to their rights, as well as introducing the dangers of the Internet and its impact on children specifically. It also presents awareness and educational programmes, entertainment and heritage competitions, and other topics that suit the event through the main platform of the festival on a daily basis, targeting all family members and children. On the other hand, members of the “Intaj” Center participate in displaying their home products, and some of them organize heritage and artistic workshops such as telly workshops, workshops on making boxes and telly pens, decorating burqas and lanterns, a cup decorating workshop, printing on pottery, creating a painting with fabrics, and others. Among the participants in the Department of Social Services platform is the Elderly Services Center, where 10 of the center’s members participate in the Sharjah Heritage Days and are present on a daily basis, to meet with the public and socialize with them. They also hold workshops for the public on making heritage products, such as the “Al-Bathayha” workshop, the “Al-Jami” workshop, and the Al-Dukhun workshops. . A corner was also designated on the department’s platform for “Memories Talk,” which transmits popular culture from the elderly to children and members of society, by listing their traditional crafts that they used to work in the past, such as building old houses, diving, hill weaving, seamstressing, and crafting.
