The Sharjah Social Services Department participates in the “Desert Police Park” festival in its fifth edition for the year 2024, which is held in the Al-Kahif area in Al-Bataeh, under the slogan “Together...time is more beautiful.” The department’s participation is represented in many of its departments and centers, which are the Social Education Department, the Social Education Center, Elderly Services, Child and Family Protection Center, Family Forum Center, Production Center, and Sharjah Volunteer Work Center. The atmosphere of the festival is dominated by the beautiful folk heritage character, so the activities and programs were derived from this inspiration since the launch of the festival on January 19, which was described as an icon of Sharjah’s authentic heritage, in the middle of the Al-Bataeh Desert, and its activities include all family members, young and old. Maitha Awad from the Department of Social Education in the Department said: Our participation in this important event stems from our belief in the importance of community cohesion and community participation with other institutions and departments in the emirate, and on the other hand, introducing the Department’s services, its role, centers and departments, as well as its branches and the programs it offers throughout the year, not to mention About its main role in caring for all family members who benefit from its services, hence the diverse participation. She added, through the department’s platform at the festival, we present approximately six workshops daily from five in the afternoon until ten in the evening, and the participations focus on the framework of prevention, protection, social awareness, and instilling values. There are workshops prepared for children about bullying, volunteering, and children’s rights derived from the “Wadeema” Child Protection Law: my right to a family, my right to play, and my right to identity. In addition to other workshops on tolerance and belonging, how to say no to those who harm you, digital safety, and volunteering... Here it is necessary to note the participation of the “Digital Life Ambassadors,” the initiative recently launched by the department, who are a group of children who were chosen to be contributors to the awareness process for their peers. During the festival, they present representative segments for each of the workshops in participation with other children, and for the elderly there are artistic workshops such as decorating incense burners with hills, and the Porsche Production Center also participates in making bracelets, wristwatches, etc., in addition to many activities, competitions and prizes. The festival receives community attention because it gives an image of the beautiful past, and it was divided into a number of villages and facilities that were distinguished by their heritage character, such as the heritage village, the desert heritage councils designated for men and others for women, the children’s village, and the entertainment village, which includes various events and activities, such as the maze. And the sliding track, the motorcycle and bicycle track, sandy football and volleyball fields, and the restaurant village, in addition to the facilities and services provided to visitors, such as the artificial lake, a safari vehicle, facilities designated for barbecues, and a theater for holding cultural and community events, all the way to the ancient park’s prayer hall with a historical character. It was built from recycled materials by inmates of the Sharjah Police Correctional and Punitive Institution.
