The Department of Social Services in Sharjah has opened the door for participation in the “Green Heart” Award in its third session for the year 2024, in its four fields: cultural, social, health, and professional. The award, which is the first of its kind in the Emirate of Sharjah, aims to stimulate energies. It also aims to establish a culture of active aging in this environment. According to Asma Al-Khudari, Director of the Sharjah Office, an age-friendly city, the award complements the role played by the Department of Social Services, through diversifying means of communication and active participation with elderly parents. She says: We noticed from previous sessions that it has had an effective impact in promoting and achieving social and community integration. The positive participation of the elderly had a good impact in changing their typical lives. They became more interested in documenting all of their social or voluntary participation by photographing them and keeping certificates of participation. They also showed greater interest in maintaining health standards through good medical readings, exercising, and preparing files. Personality to submit for the award, and this is what we were aiming for, which is to achieve active aging, and the increase in the rate of participants in the award from 8 in the first cycle to 49 in the second cycle was an important indicator of the change in the lives of the elderly in the emirate. Al-Khudari continued by saying: The award is part of the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah and its humanitarian approach towards social well-being for various age groups, as it is an age-friendly city. It is also consistent with the Sharjah Age-Friendly City program within the community participation axes of the Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities, as it works with great appreciation. Age for the efforts made in various activities, motivating him to adapt and develop a daily lifestyle, spreading the culture of the green heart and active aging, enhancing the membership of the Emirate of Sharjah in the global network of age-friendly cities. The Green Heart Award is divided into two categories: the Active Seniors category: the age group between 60 and 79 years, and the Advanced Seniors category: the age group 80 years and above.
