The Department of Social Services in Sharjah participated in the clinical legal exhibition at the University of Sharjah, which was held at the College of Law. Its organization coincides with the launch of the website of the Clinical Legal Office at the University of Sharjah, which is concerned with spreading legal culture and providing support and legal advice to those who need it, by the college’s distinguished students and under the supervision of Her teachers. Government departments in Sharjah and institutions concerned with the legal aspect participated in the exhibition. The Department's participation was represented by the Legal Affairs Department, as well as legal researchers in the houses, departments and centers affiliated with the Department, and all branches of the Department in the Eastern and Central Region and Sharjah, represented by the Child and Family Protection Centre, the Family Forum and the Women's Protection Centre. The participants presented to the audience the definition of the department, its tasks, services, and specializations that are diverse and comprehensive for all segments of society, and its role in human development in the country. They touched on the legal provisions and decisions followed in the department, each according to its field and administration: regarding the protection of children and abused women, in regulating the vision and parental relationship, and implementing orders on a petition received from the Family Court in Sharjah, whether they are children or women. Ghaitha Mazhar, a legal researcher at the Department’s Women’s Protection Center, gave a presentation on the tasks and role of the center, which stems from its vision: from protection to empowerment. She explained about the services provided to women who are exposed to violence, including providing social, psychological, and legal services with the aim of reintegrating them into society and achieving a decent life. It is independent and owned by specialists in accordance with the best practices and standards in the Emirate of Sharjah. She said that the center was established in 2011, and specializes in protecting women who are exposed to all kinds of attacks, and through the center all services are provided that ensure their protection, such as shelter services and social, psychological and legal counseling services, and work is done to rehabilitate them to reintegrate them into society, rehabilitating women and girls of violence socially and psychologically. Professionally and integrated into society. It is known for its objectives, which are: providing development, rehabilitation and treatment programs with the aim of empowering abused women and increasing their opportunities for self-reliance through vocational rehabilitation programmes, spreading and enhancing awareness of women’s issues, making them aware of their rights and enabling them to live independently and with dignity. It was also known about the types of violence to which women are exposed, which are physical violence, which is known as severe beatings, sexual violence, including sexual assault and prostitution, emotional violence, which is related to cases of expulsion, insults, and cursing, and economic violence, in which the husband does not provide his wife with housing or does not provide expenses. As for the conditions for shelter in the center, they are: that the woman be a citizen of the Emirate of Sharjah, and that her age is more than 18 years and less than 60 years, and that social research proves her need for shelter and her loss of social care or her need for protection, and that she does not have a breadwinner who can take care of her and protect her, and that she is a refugee. From an official authority in the country, and that she does not suffer from any mental or psychological illness.
