The Child and Family Protection Center of the Department of Social Services in Sharjah received a delegation from the Emirates Association of Lawyers and Jurists, and the Bahraini and Kuwaiti Lawyers Association. This visit comes within the framework of exchanging experiences and knowledge in the field of legal practices between sisterly countries. During the visit, the visiting delegation was introduced to the center’s activities and objectives and the most prominent services it provides, including rescuing children and those without social care and providing them with specialized psychological support. Emphasis was also placed on the importance of securing the rights of children and those without uninsured social care and the necessity of providing legal representation for children. Kholoud Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Center, welcomed the visiting delegation, appreciating this beautiful gesture made by the visiting delegation in visiting the Center and learning closely about the services provided to children, families, and various categories of those without social care. She pointed out that the Child and Family Protection Center was established in 2008, and is one of the centers affiliated with the Social Care and Protection Sector in the Department of Social Services in the United Arab Emirates. She stated that the center works to protect the rights of children, as well as groups who lack social care (children - the elderly - abused women - mentally ill people and people with disabilities), and to ensure a safe environment for them by securing their rights, making society aware of them, protecting those exposed to abuse, and removing its effects, in addition to providing services. Helping children and those missing from social care reported by various means and urgent intervention mechanisms and ensuring that they enjoy all their rights, in addition to providing counseling services to them and their families. She also reported that the center provides specialized psychological support to children and those without social care who have been exposed to abuse through assessment, counseling and rehabilitation programs with the aim of erasing the effects of abuse and psychological and behavioral treatment, in addition to ensuring their educational and health rights and legal representation for the child. The center integrates with the competent authorities to protect the rights of children, those without social care, the elderly, abused women, the mentally ill, and people with disabilities, seeking to ensure a safe environment for them by securing their rights and educating society about their importance, in addition to protecting those exposed to abuse and removing its effects. Strengthening partnerships. The meeting discussed the legal challenges and sustainable practices to protect the rights of children and those without social care, stressing the importance of activating the Child Protection Law (Wadeema) and exchanging experiences to ensure a safe environment for the target groups, in a step that enhances international cooperation and strengthens partnerships concerned with children’s rights in the region.
