The Department of Social Services in Sharjah launched the summer program "Summer Friends", which is organized by the Child and Family Protection Center of the department. The program, which is presented for the first year, for the age group of 5-12 years, aims to invest the summer vacation in developing the skills and abilities of children, teaching them the importance of their rights in society, as well as knowing how to protect themselves from harm. It also aims to enhance communication and interaction among children and improve the quality of and the quality of time they spend with their social surroundings during holidays and vacations. The activities of the "Summer Friends" program will continue until the end of August 2023, and it includes a variety of awareness lectures that are implemented in coordination and cooperation with various centers from the community and child-concerned agencies within the Emirate of Sharjah. As for the events, they contain 3 programmes, which are a set of awareness lectures dealing with the topic of "school bullying", which educates children about the concept of school bullying and that it is an aggressive and unwanted behavior by the community and spreads among school students, which indicates an imbalance. The strength of the bullying student, as the student who uses violence and physical force to get what he wants indicates a clear imbalance in his energy. The summer program shows the types of bullying: physical bullying, verbal bullying, social bullying, and cyberbullying. And how to know the signs of a child being bullied at school, and how to deal with this phenomenon. The second program is "How to Say No", which aims to teach children the basics of protecting themselves from harm through several basic stages, where the social protection specialist introduces them to them and trains them to apply them by selecting a number of children and acting out scenes in order to reinforce the idea within each child and teach them protection themselves correctly. The third program is the “My Rights” program, which is a legal program presented by legal researchers, who introduce children to their rights and duties. The story of the child, Wadima, who was the reason for the issuance of a law for children and the protection of children, is presented. The article is explained in an easy and smooth manner to children so that they know the basic rights: Life and safety, their right to a name, registration in the birth register, the right to nationality, the right to lineage, other identification papers, the right to express opinion, the prohibition of employment in work before reaching the age of 15, the prohibition of commercial exploitation, family, health, educational, social and cultural rights, the right to protection and mechanisms protection measures and penalties. The last program is "Super Strong", which is a program provided by psychologists at the Child and Family Protection Center, and it relies on the verbal intelligence technique, which increases verbal expression in children and adults, as it was noted that there are deficiencies in verbal expression among many children, whether they were exposed to any kind of Abuse or not, and a child who has deficiencies in verbal expression is vulnerable to bullying, abuse, and subsequent psychological disorders. Therefore, it was very important to design a program that develops this aspect in children so that they can protect themselves against abuse and create self-confident children out of them who are able to overcome any pain that resulted from being bullied, abused, and assaulted.
