On the occasion of the International Day of Child Helplines, which falls on the 17th of May of each year, the Child and Family Protection Center and the branches of the Department of Social Services organized the International Day of Child Helplines under the slogan "The Guardian of a Voice", where the Child Helpline team at the center received a group of students from Al-Andalus School for Basic Education, first cycle, in Sharjah. The department’s branches also celebrated this day in Al-Hamriya, Al-Dhaid, Al-Madam, Al-Bataeh, Khorfakkan, Dibba Al-Hisn, Maliha, and Kalba, in the presence of a number of parents and school representatives. According to Kholoud Al Ali, Director of the Center, the event aims to introduce children to their rights and inform them that their voices are heard by the various groups of society, and that they enjoy all the rights they deserve. The children toured the center and learned about its departments and the role it plays in the field of child protection and care. They also learned easily about the activities offered to children. They were also briefed on the mechanism for receiving communications through the helpline section. The event also included entertaining and educational competitions with the aim of consolidating information among children. The children expressed how pleased they were to visit the center and get to know the work team closely and experience the social work of the team, appreciating the importance of this visit to them, and expressing their thanks and appreciation for this opportunity. And Al Ali says - because we seek to have ambassadors for us in the various places where children gather, particularly in schools, in order to contribute to educating their companions and friends about the center and the tasks entrusted to it, and most importantly, informing them that the center is able to protect them from any harm they may encounter, so we decided to open the door to School students and parents visit the center. Regarding the number of calls received on the line, the director of the center answered that the number of communications received by the child reached about 1208, from the beginning of 2023 until the end of last April. Workshops are also provided on the mechanism of submitting reports and introducing the Safe Monitor service in hospitals, government and private health centers, and institutions specialized in child protection and care in the country. She mentioned that the child can easily communicate with us on the helpline by calling the number 800700, but most of the calls come from individuals surrounding the child, including teachers, friends of the family or relatives, especially one of the parents. In conclusion, Kholoud Al Ali points out that the greatest danger to the child lies in the electronic programs and applications that pose a great danger to the child during use, which exposes him to a number of ethical, moral and psychological problems that negatively affect him. Kholoud Al Ali also calls on parents to embrace their children and be careful to deal with them in ways that are far from violence, pressure and beatings.
