The Department of Social Services in Sharjah is participating in more than 50 activities and programs in the 13th edition of the Sharjah Children's Reading Festival, which will be launched at the Sharjah Expo Center, during the period between 11 and 22 May. A publishing house from 139 Arab and foreign countries, organizing more than 15 events that combine theater with creative workshops, artistic performances and dialogue sessions. The Department has been keen to participate in the festival's activities for six years, represented in the Department of Social Education, as it is an important event on the map of the Emirate of Sharjah on the one hand, and affects the child, family and society as a whole on the other hand. Mariam Al-Qusair, Director of the Social Education Department in the Department of Social Services, said that the aim of participating in the festival is because it is a gathering point for all family members, where parents accompany their children to the festival and participate in this cultural event, which is not without fun and benefit, and the important thing is that the festival allows For us to be close to the categories of concern to the Department of Social Services, i.e. the children segment from kindergarten to secondary school, in addition to parents and provide them with lectures and workshops in social and family education, through targeted programs, competitions, games and distribution of motivational gifts. Al-Qusayr added, a special platform has been allocated for programs in Hall 1900, Corner 5, where our participation is in two shifts, morning and evening, through which we spread the knowledge culture of school students and promote the culture of instilling societal values, awareness and self-defense programs, and training children on how to protect themselves if they are exposed. For assault or violence, in addition to organizing workshops related to our Arab and Islamic heritage and identity such as making and decorating the burqa, good citizenship, singular programs, volunteering, free drawing and painting to allow children to express their opinions and problems, etc... The list of events also includes useful programs such as how to invest free time and holidays in Home, exercise, science industry, digital safety, and how to exercise self-control, which will be presented by all social educators in the department. On the other hand, the Director of the Social Education Department clarified that the department’s publications will be distributed during the festival period in three languages, Arabic, English and Urdu, because the exhibition attracts visitors of various nationalities.
