The Ishraqa Program, launched by the Department of Social Services in Sharjah since its launch in 2015, has achieved remarkable success in rehabilitating a number of child victims of sexual abuse and harassment, enabling them to overcome the ordeal and move on to a better life. Amina Al-Rifai, Director of the Child Protection Department, said: The program is a psychological treatment that is applied collectively or individually, aiming to treat and rehabilitate victims of sexual abuse or harassment, to get rid of the impact on them after being subjected to abuse or harassment. Al-Rifai explained that the Eshraqa program is based on two main goals, which are providing the necessary support to sexually abused children by removing the psychological impact, as well as rehabilitating the child to accept life armed with the tools that enable him to live in a safe and sound manner. She explained that the child helpline, which operates 24 hours a day via the toll-free number, is the first line dedicated to helping children in the United Arab Emirates, and holds CHI membership. The department also joined the International Organization for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect “ISPCAN” and is classified according to its types Emotional, physical, sexual, neglect, exploitation. She pointed out that protecting the child from abuse ensures a sound upbringing, preserves his rights, and makes him an effective member of society.
