The Production Center of the Social Services Department in Sharjah is participating in the first edition of the Wheat Festival organized by the Department of Agriculture and Animal Wealth in Sharjah at the wheat farm located in the city of Maliha. It witnesses a variety of entertainment and educational activities in addition to live demonstrations of harvesting and milling operations, multiple outlets for selling local wheat products and interactive workshops on sustainable agriculture. The festival will continue until February 27. On this occasion, Maryam Al Hammadi, Director of the Production Center, said that the Wheat Festival is part of a package of community initiatives and activities organized by the Emirate of Sharjah, which include many vital messages in the lives of community members, the most important of which is the interest in food security, and the emphasis on natural resources and their role in our lives. We, in turn, are an integral part of this community and seek to be present and participate in all activities, with the aim of introducing the services of the Social Services Department first, and promoting the products of the productive families affiliated with the Production Center, and raising their economic level in addition to transferring their experiences to others. She stated that the number of participants in the festival is 16 families from the areas of Al Dhaid, Sharjah, Al Madam, Al Bataeh and Maliha, where the products of the packages provided by the center are displayed, such as the Al Tayeb package for perfumes and incense, the Atayeb package for food, the Mahra package for traditional crafts, the Elegance package for clothes and the Creativity package for handicrafts. On another note, Al Hammadi said that participation in the Wheat Festival will not be limited to displaying the products of members only, but there are workshops organized by the members of the Production Center and they are derived from the specializations of each participant. At the end of her speech, Al Hammadi thanked the Department of Agriculture and Animal Wealth in Sharjah for organizing this event, the first of its kind in the country, which seeks to enhance the concepts and practices of sustainable food security and consolidate the behaviors of community members to preserve natural resources, which coincides with the celebration of the third anniversary of the start of the vital food project in planting and harvesting wheat in the Emirate of Sharjah.
