276 children participated in the activities of the “Summer Friends” summer program, which was launched by the Department of Social Services in Sharjah, and continues until the end of August. Children in the age group of 5-12 years benefit from it, and its implementation is supervised by the Department’s Child and Family Protection Center. Fatima Al Marzouqi, Director of the Child and Family Protection Center, says that the program includes various activities that coincide with the children’s summer vacation, and aims to invest the summer vacation in developing the skills and abilities of children, teaching them the importance of their rights in society, as well as knowing how to protect themselves from harm. It also aims to enhance Communication and interaction among children and improving the quality of time they spend with their social environment during holidays and vacations. She added that "Summer Friends" includes a group of educational and awareness programs that are implemented in coordination and cooperation with various centers from community agencies concerned with children within the Emirate of Sharjah. The activities include 3 programmes, which are a group of awareness and educational lectures presented by an awareness team at the Child and Family Protection Center, made up of social protection specialists, social intellectuals and legal researchers. The first programme, “How to Say No”, aims to teach children the foundations of protecting themselves from harm through several methods. Basic stages, where he defines them and trains them to apply them by choosing a number of children and acting out scenes in order to reinforce the idea within each child and teach them to protect themselves properly.
