The Department of Social Licensing of the Department of Social Services in Sharjah organized a training workshop for "rehabilitation of elderly people" in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent Authority in the Sharjah branch, in the framework of developing and enhancing the skills of workers and those working in the service of the elderly. Naseem Al-Zarif, head of the qualifying program team, reported that the qualification program that was held at the headquarters of the Red Crescent, attended by about 30 participants, including employees from government departments and institutions, retirees, university and college students, in addition to volunteers who serve the elderly and groups with disabilities, noting that the program He received the satisfaction and interaction of the participants and won their approval. The program aims to rehabilitate the companion based on the care of the elderly and enable him to provide all the services he needs in all respects with a high degree of efficiency and to acquire the skills of dealing with it, and to educate the family about the requirements of the elderly and his psychological, health and social needs. Naseem mentioned that the program included a number of topics that were represented in: presenting methods for dealing with the elderly and how to save his money and property, in addition to determining the quality of entertainment programs and activities directed to the elderly, as well as teaching the participants the basics of maintaining non-transmission of infection, personal hygiene, and the method of arranging The bed of the disabled elderly, in addition to the proper way to transport the elderly, and the method of checking vital signs - and how to prevent back sores for bedridden, in addition to the recommended eating method and position, while avoiding negatives and errors while dealing with the elderly and the points Be careful when handling it, and first aid. For its part, Kholoud Ahmed Al Nuaimi, Director of the Social Licensing Department, said that the training program comes within the department’s strategy to develop and enhance the skills of workers in the service of the elderly and people with special needs, and empower those with special circumstances in order to live in dignity and independence This is what the department seeks to improve and upgrade all the social and welfare services provided to the segments of society. Al-Nuaimi indicated that this department’s endeavor to rehabilitate elderly women, but it embodies the vision of the Emirate of Sharjah in its approach based on preparing Sharjah as a age-friendly city, where 7 workshops were implemented that benefited about 470 people who were involved in the service of the elderly during 2018. The training team based on the implementation of the workshop included a social counselor and a nursing staff composed of a doctor in addition to a number of social welfare employees as well as a number of nurses, nursing assistants from the Home Care Department and the Nursing Home.
