As part of the 14th Elderly Forum, which it organizes annually to coincide with the International Day of Older Persons, the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) announced the launch of the "SENIORx" online platform. The platform is the first of its kind in the Middle East, providing an interactive space dedicated to older people, showcasing their experiences, achievements, and contributions. The platform was launched by Fatima Ali Ibrahim, a ninety-year-old mother who is a beneficiary of the department and a member of the department's Al Asalah Club. She is also one of the oldest volunteers. The Emirati platform is dedicated to older people and aims to highlight leadership and contributions after the age of sixty. The idea was inspired by successful international experiences in highlighting the roles of older people, and it presents a model that consolidates their position as changemakers and a source of inspiration for future generations. A platform for inspiration and experience sharing: The platform aims to be an open space for older adults to share their life and work experiences with the community and the public, in a style similar to global dialogue sessions. Senior X gives them the opportunity to narrate their journeys, achievements, and challenges, and how they were able to transform these experiences into inspiring lessons and stories. Senior X aims to transfer the experiences of older adults to new generations, enhancing the benefits of experience and knowledge across decades, promoting the concept of positive aging, breaking stereotypes associated with disability or retirement, and building an intergenerational bridge based on dialogue, inspiration, and the exchange of visions. It also highlights inspiring real-life stories from the UAE, the region, and the world, demonstrating that leadership, creativity, and giving are not limited by age. It also aims to establish a permanent platform that will continue to host annual sessions and regional networks to exchange experiences and success stories. Through this platform, the Social Services Department seeks to transform the stories and experiences of older adults into a valuable community asset that inspires individuals and instills in the hearts of young people and future generations the belief that giving is not related to age, but rather to a spirit capable of influencing and making a difference.
