Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council, the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD) will hold its 14th Elderly Services Forum on October 2nd, under the theme "Renewed Giving... Endless Leadership" at Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre. Khawla Abdullah Al Ali, Director of the Government Communication Office at the department, stated that the choice of the forum's theme reaffirms the essential role played by older adults, which does not diminish or disappear with age, but rather marks the beginning of a new phase of giving and success in all aspects of our lives. The forum aims to highlight the role of older adults as changemakers and sources of inspiration for society, showcase their experiences during the forum sessions, promote the concept of "positive aging" and break down stereotypes after retirement and disability. The forum will feature guests specializing in supporting and caring for older adults from local, regional, and international entities, including social and psychological experts, representatives of organizations concerned with older adults, as well as policymakers and influencers in the field of active aging. The forum will also showcase pioneering experiences from around the world, highlighting successful models of community leadership and institutional excellence demonstrated by older adults, whose renewed achievements continue to contribute to the development of their communities. During the sessions, practical strategies for empowering older adults and enhancing their active participation in public life will be reviewed, with a focus on real stories and inspiring human experiences. The forum includes two main dialogue sessions, combining intellectual and humanitarian aspects. The first session, titled "Success Stories After Sixty," highlights prominent leaders who have continued their contributions after retirement, achieving success in diverse fields such as entrepreneurship, institutional leadership, and volunteer and community work. The session includes a review of local and regional experiences, with an open dialogue between the speakers and the audience to exchange ideas and visions. The second session, titled "Positive Aging and Well-being," discusses the most prominent concepts and practices that enhance the quality of life for older adults, such as mental health, community support, independence, and age-friendly environments. The session will feature a group of specialists in the fields of public health, social services, and urban planning, both inside and outside the country. The forum also includes an accompanying exhibition, showcasing the creativity of senior citizens affiliated with the department's authenticity clubs. This exhibition features artistic, craft, and home products, providing a platform for displaying their productions, which reflect their extensive experience and evolving skills. The exhibition also features artworks and heritage crafts inspired by the Emirati environment. The exhibition aims to support the sustainability of community participation among senior citizens and motivate them to continue their production and creativity.
