
The Sharjah Volunteer Work Center, affiliated with the Department of Social Services, revealed the achievements of the Sharjah Volunteer Work Platform during the first half of 2025. The platform registered 96,774 volunteers, who contributed to implementing 3,384 volunteer opportunities in cooperation with 388 organizations. Volunteers achieved a total of approximately 1,489,564 volunteer hours, reflecting the Emirate of Sharjah's unwavering commitment to promoting a culture of volunteering as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development and enhancing community cohesion. In detail, the Sharjah Volunteer Platform demonstrated a diverse range of participating categories. Youth topped the list with 80,475 volunteers, representing the most engaged and eager volunteers. This significant participation reflects a heightened awareness among young people of the importance of their social role and responsibilities in achieving sustainable development and promoting a culture of giving. The platform also registered the participation of 16,131 young volunteers, highlighting the growing interest in instilling values of responsibility and community engagement from an early age. Programs targeting this group have contributed to enhancing their awareness of the importance of volunteer work as an essential part of their personal and social development. The participants also included senior citizens aged between 60 and 100, who contributed their rich experience and ongoing giving, supporting the concept of social integration and enhancing the values of community cohesion. In addition, the platform has attracted people of determination and others with disabilities to participate in various volunteer activities. This reflects the commitment to integrating this group into society and providing a supportive environment that enables them to contribute effectively, reinforcing the values of inclusiveness and integration embraced by the Emirate of Sharjah. Women in Volunteer Work: In turn, women have played a pivotal role in promoting volunteer work, with female volunteers slightly outnumbering male volunteers registered on the Sharjah Volunteer Platform. This remarkable superiority reflects women's role as essential and effective partners in achieving social and economic development. This distinguished presence also underscores society's growing awareness of the importance of involving all segments of society in the voluntary work process and its social and community responsibility. Women's contributions in this field also represent a pioneering model to be emulated, given their pivotal role in building a sustainable society based on the values of solidarity and cooperation. The platform boasts a variety of volunteer opportunities and participating organizations. The platform registered the participation of approximately 388 organizations, including government agencies, public benefit associations, volunteer teams, private entities, and educational institutions, including universities and schools. Volunteer opportunities spanned a variety of fields, including education, health, humanitarian work, promoting community service for senior citizens, culture, arts, sports, the environment, and entertainment, in addition to emergency response. Promoting a Culture of Giving. In this context, Hessa Al Hammadi, Director of the Community Cohesion Department, commended the outstanding results achieved by the Sharjah Volunteer Work Center during the first half of 2025, stressing that these accomplishments reflect the generous spirit of the UAE community and the humanitarian approach rooted in the culture of the Emirate of Sharjah. Al Hammadi explained that achieving 1.48 million volunteer hours is a significant accomplishment that reflects the commitment of individuals and institutions in Sharjah to the values of giving and social responsibility. It also demonstrates the wide diversity in participation across age groups, from children and youth to senior citizens. Al Hammadi pointed out that volunteer work in the Emirate of Sharjah is not merely a social activity, but rather an essential part of an integrated vision aimed at promoting human values and instilling a culture of giving.
