The Sharjah Social Services Department has begun implementing Executive Council Resolution No. 2 of 2025 regarding the provision of medical and dental treatment services to elderly and disabled citizens of all ages in the Emirate of Sharjah, after it was previously limited to the elderly. Asmaa Al-Khudari, Director of the Quality and Age-Friendly Health Services Office, explains that all people with disabilities of all ages from the Emirate of Sharjah can now treat their teeth at the Dental Hospital at the University of Sharjah, based on the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, who spares no effort in supporting this segment of society, taking into account and meeting all their conditions and needs and improving their economic situation. Al-Khudari said, “We have started receiving applications from the University Dental Hospital for more than a month, as the Social Services Department was tasked with providing direct financial support for the expenses of medical and dental treatment services for elderly and disabled citizens registered with the department, in accordance with the provisions of the Advisory Council’s resolution. It has also distributed credit cards for dental treatment to people with disabilities.” She added that the Social Services Department, in order to achieve the objectives of this decision, is responsible for providing medical and dental treatment services to both categories in coordination with the University Hospital, creating a database of beneficiaries of dental medical and treatment services support, verifying that the conditions stipulated in the decision are met to benefit from dental medical and treatment services support, referring beneficiaries to the relevant medical and treatment authorities, concluding contracts and agreements with the University Dental Hospital in Sharjah and institutions and facilities specialized in providing dental medical and treatment services, in addition to periodic follow-up and evaluation of dental medical and treatment services provided by institutions and facilities contracted with the department and taking all necessary administrative and legal measures in this regard. The Director of the Quality and Age-Friendly Health Services Office confirms that this procedure leads to supporting and enhancing dental medical and treatment services for the elderly and disabled citizens of the Emirate of Sharjah and maintains their health and safety and supports their families by providing support for medical and treatment services for them. Regarding the conditions that must be met by the beneficiary category, it is required that he be a citizen and hold a Sharjah registration, and that the elderly person be no less than (60) years old, and that the disabled person hold a People of Determination card issued by the Ministry of Community Empowerment if he is in the category of people with disabilities.
